Governor Wolf Expands Emergency Coordination to Support Response to Protests; HAP Emergency Management Team Assisting Hospitals

As Pennsylvanians across the state protest the death of George Floyd, Governor Tom Wolf on Saturday announced an expansion of the commonwealth’s current Response Coordination Center, housed at the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. Wolf also signed a disaster emergency declaration to provide additional resources and support from the Pennsylvania National Guard to Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh.

Health Care, Manufacturing, and Business Advocates Call for COVID-19 Liability Protections for “Smart Restart”

Today, HAP President and CEO Andy Carter joined members of the Pennsylvania Coalition for Civil Justice Reform for a virtual press conference to call on the Governor and the General Assembly to protect hospitals, health care providers, manufacturers, and businesses from meritless lawsuits during Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 disaster declaration and as the state gradually reopens.

Congress Invests in COVID-19 Response; Support for Health Care Providers and Prioritizes Testing

With the country still reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress authorized additional funding to reinforce the economic relief provided under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, including directing additional resources to the public health response and replenishing the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Today, President Trump signed the legislation.

Today, Governor Tom Wolf signed “Order of the Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to Ensure the Efficient Allocation and Effective Use of Critical Medical Resources” during the COVID-19 pandemic. Andy Carter, president and CEO of The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP), released a statement  regarding this new action.

As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to have a devastating impact on Pennsylvania and the nation, state legislators have the power to provide significant financial support to ensure that the Pennsylvania health care community has the means to sufficiently respond to the virus and save lives. Uptick in Health Care-Related Ransomware Attacks

Ransomware attacks targeting the health care sector have risen dramatically during 2020 and continue to claim enterprise victims. There have been new victims of the Ryuk ransomware, which specifically targets large enterprises for large payments.
