The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) is a not-for-profit trade association based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, which advocates for nearly 240 Pennsylvania acute and specialty care hospitals and health systems including primary care, subacute care, long-term care, home health, and hospice providers, as well as the patients and communities they serve.

HAP’s employees represent its membership in the legislative, regulatory, and health policy arenas in Harrisburg, Washington D.C., and regionally, including the southeast.

Administrative Assistant

The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania is seeking an administrative assistant to provide support across the organization. This will include:

  • Administrative support to our political action committee
  • Telephone coverage
  • Preparation of meeting folders
  • Updating the membership management system
  • Special projects
  • Document preparation and proofreading
  • General office duties

Candidates for consideration must have:

  • Advanced secretarial training or administrative certification or Associate Degree in related field preferred
  • Two to four years of broad administrative support experience (association or communications background is a plus)
  • Proficiency with personal computer (Microsoft office, graphics, and email system)
  • Proficiency with general business equipment is mandatory

In addition, the successful candidate must possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and have knowledge of grammar, as well as proofreading skills.

This position requires the ability to interact in a positive manner, to take initiative, work independently, and prioritize multiple deadlines. Must be a team player and be willing to take on new and varied assignments. This position also requires the ability to deal tactfully with all levels of corporate staff, membership, and external contacts.

Director, Political Finance and Engagement

The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) is seeking a director, political finance and engagement. This position is responsible for designing and executing political strategies and tactics to elect the best candidates for public office for HAP’s agenda. This includes overseeing independent expenditures on HAP political action. Responsibilities will also include identifying races for independent expenditures and HAPAC involvement. Use of polling, voter data and state of the art messaging tools is required.

Candidates for consideration must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, or related field
  • Experience with PAC fundraising
  • Familiarity with databases, Excel, mass email platforms and practices, and social media fundraising and messaging
  • Digital, television, and mail political advertising

Applicants should have five to seven years of professional experience, including campaigns and political action, preferably across the state.

Director, Advocacy Activation

The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) is seeking a director, advocacy activation. This Harrisburg-based position is responsible for mobilizing hospital leaders, employees, and consumers across Pennsylvania to advocate for the legislative policy agendas of the association and its members in Washington and Harrisburg.

 The position requires:

  • A demonstrated ability to motivate others to action
  • Creative thinking with regard to methods of action of the grassroots
  • Familiarity with standard and new tactics for achieving that activation

The candidate will be involved with event planning and execution, message design, phone, email, social media, plus constant learning about various health care policy matters and the views of members of the association.

Candidates for consideration must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, or related field; a Master’s degree is preferred
  • Experience using social media platforms and other digital tools in the workplace
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Senior Director, Communications and Social Media

The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) is seeking a senior director, communications and social media. This position is responsible for managing and directing the association’s internal and external communications, including for advocacy.

This position is critical to the association’s mission. Advocacy for good public policy requires a very sophisticated communications strategy, including utilizing all relevant digital and social media tools and crafting messages that resonate with the public and the hospital community.

This individual will lead the effective communications with association members, other health care stakeholders, and the public on the wide array of services the association performs. Today’s communications for HAP must tell our compelling stories to our audiences, and do so through state-of-the-art methods of communication.

Candidates for consideration must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or related field; a Master’s degree is preferred
  • Supervisory experience
  • Strong social media experience; experience with digital community advocacy a plus
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other HAP staff, members, and external publics

Applicants should have five to seven years of professional experience in communications, social media, public relations, or a related field. A background in health care or a trade association setting is beneficial.
