Pennsylvania hospitals and the health care community worldwide are observing International Infection Prevention Week, October 18–24, 2020.
2020 has been extremely challenging for everyone but especially for health care workers. Among these heroes is Infection Preventionists. Infection Preventionists have been challenged to develop policies, procedures, and plans to prevent and stop the spread of the novel SARS-CoV-2 virus, in addition to their normal work of helping to prevent all hospital-acquired infections.
With knowledge constantly changing about transmission, prevention precautions, testing, and vaccines, Infection Preventionists have had to adapt and keep themselves and others updated on a continual basis. They frequently work in the background without much acknowledgment from others. Their roles have expanded to include non-traditional settings such as businesses, restaurants, gyms, schools, personal care homes, and many other settings.
HAP would like to acknowledge all the Infection Preventionists for their dedicated work in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and all infectious diseases and encourage our health care facilities to acknowledge them as well.
For more information about Infection Prevention Week, contact HAP’s Infection Preventionists Mary Catanzaro, Maggie Miller, or Clare Edelmayer.
