State General Assembly Allocates First Round of PA’s CARES Act Funding; Hospital Advocacy Still Needed

Today, the General Assembly confirmed a state budget covering the first five months of the 2020–2021 fiscal year (FY), House Bill 2387 (Saylor, R-York).In addition, the General Assembly approved a second budget measure, allocating a portion of the $3.9 billion in funds Pennsylvania received from the federal CARES Act. Hospital advocacy still is critical. HAP requests all hospital leaders and personnel text “COVIDRELIEF” to 313131. This will provide hospital advocates with an easy way to contact policymakers.

Health Care, Manufacturing, and Business Advocates Call for COVID-19 Liability Protections for “Smart Restart”

Today, HAP President and CEO Andy Carter joined members of the Pennsylvania Coalition for Civil Justice Reform for a virtual press conference to call on the Governor and the General Assembly to protect hospitals, health care providers, manufacturers, and businesses from meritless lawsuits during Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 disaster declaration and as the state gradually reopens.

HHS Begins Distribution of Nearly $4.9 Billion to Nursing Facilities Impacted by COVID-19

Today the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) began distributing nearly $4.9 billion in additional relief funds to skilled nursing facilities (SNF) to help them combat the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. A state-by-state breakdown of amounts paid is available. During this public health crisis, nursing homes face unique challenges as their population of high-risk seniors are more vulnerable to respiratory pathogens like COVID-19. This funding supplements previously announced provider relief funds, and can be used to help nursing homes suffering from significant expenses or lost revenue attributable to COVID-19.
