Effective July 1, 2019, seven new and revised elements of performance (EPs) were applicable to all Joint Commission-accredited hospitals and behavioral health care organizations. These requirements are at National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG) 15.01.01 and are designed to improve the quality and safety of care for those who are being treated for behavioral health conditions and those who are identified as high risk for suicide.

On April 10, 2020, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) started the immediate release of $30 billion in relief funding to providers in support of the national response to COVID-19 as the first tranche of the distribution of the $100 billion provider relief fund provided for in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
