Overview
With the spread of COVID-19 across the United States, emergency departments (EDs) regardless of hospital size or location are being flooded with patients seeking emergency care. As patients with coronavirus-like symptoms present at the ED for testing and treatment, hospitals must ensure compliance with the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA).
On March 30, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services revised its EMTALA guidance in response to ongoing concerns related to COVID-19. This revised guidance is comprehensive and will be reviewed during this webinar.
Key Discussion Points Include:
- Obligations and expectations to screen and stabilize or transfer individuals
- Recommended screening factors
- Use of alternate screening sites (including the establishment of drive-through testing sites)
- Enforcement standards
- Concerns related to lack of PPE and the use of telehealth
- Considerations for staff who are reassigned during a crisis
This webinar is complimentary to HAP members.
