Hospital Week in Pennsylvania: Celebrating Pennsylvania’s Hospitals, Health Care Heroes

Pennsylvania’s hospitals are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to treat every person who needs care, regardless of their health or insurance status. We honor these critical resources by observing May 10–15 as National Hospital Week and May as National Nurses Month. These observances offer opportunities to express gratitude for the invaluable and selfless work that hospital and health care workers do to make sure that every Pennsylvanian gets the care they need.

House Committee Moves Health Care Worker Assault Legislation

Today, the Pennsylvania House Judiciary Committee voted to send Senate Bill 351, offered by Sen. Judy Ward (R-Blair), to a vote by the full House. Senate Bill 351 adds health care practitioners to a protected class in the event of an on-duty assault and increase the penalty, from a misdemeanor to a felony.

HAP Focuses on Safety in Testimony at Joint Senate Committee Hearing, Reopening of Pennsylvania

Today, via teleconference, the Senate Health and Human Services Committee held a joint hearing with the Senate Local Government Committee on the reopening of the commonwealth after weeks of a statewide stay at home order that began on April 1. Members of the committees heard from members of the Wolf Administration, including the Department of Community and Economic Development, the Department of Health, Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency as well as local government officials, and representatives from the health care community, including HAP.
