Today, Governor Tom Wolf signed “Order of the Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to Ensure the Efficient Allocation and Effective Use of Critical Medical Resources” during the COVID-19 pandemic. Andy Carter, president and CEO of The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP), released the statement below regarding this new action:
“The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about unprecedented challenges, the likes of which none of us has ever addressed. Times like these require close collaboration between health care and government. HAP is proud of the partnership that we have forged among the hospital community, HAP’s emergency management team, and the commonwealth, including the Department of Health and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.
“Our first priority is to ensure the health and safety of frontline health care workers and the patients they care for. During a time when supply chains are stretched thin and demand is high, our statewide mutual aid agreement is an effective tool to ensure that critical resources and supplies are distributed quickly and efficiently among the state’s health care facilities. We hope that this Executive Order leverages the existing infrastructure to move forward. Our neighbors in New York have demonstrated the effectiveness of voluntary sharing and coordination.
“Guided by our shared goal to ensure that all communities have the resources they need, when they need them, we look forward to working with the Wolf Administration to secure and deploy every available source of supplies and ensure that allocation of resources is orderly, effective, and collaborative.”
