Dr. Perrone will be detailing the strategy of utilizing financial incentives to expand the number of X waivered clinicians in addition to addressing some myths surrounding X waiver in order to encourage and engage clinicians with the administration of buprenorphine in the emergency department and hospital. Lastly, Dr. Perrone will summarize the importance of the shifting culture in the emergency department in regards to recovery advocacy. Dr. Perrone is a Professor of Emergency Medicine and Medical Toxicology and serves as the Director of Penn Medicine’s Center for Addiction Medicine and Policy.

Objectives

  • Describe a strategy utilizing financial incentives to expand the number of X waivered clinicians
  • Debunk myths to enhance readiness to administer buprenorphine in the emergency department and hospital by advanced practice professions, residents, and faculty to treat opioid withdrawal
  • Characterize the shifting emergency department culture towards recovery advocacy through peers, positive narratives, and follow up to enhance buprenorphine administration
