New PHC4 Report Outlines Growing Financial Stress for PA Hospitals

In its financial analysis of general acute care hospitals for fiscal year (FY) 2020, Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4) uncovered a significant drop in the statewide average of total margins (from 6.63% during FY 2019 to 3.93% during FY 2020), as well as the statewide average of operating margins (from 5.61% during FY 2019 to 3.73% during FY 2020).

New Proposal Would Fund Innovative Programs to Bolster Post-pandemic Health Care

During a press conference today, lawmakers and members of the Pennsylvania hospital community unveiled the Health Care Heroes and Public Health Preparedness Act, a measure that would set aside $650 million of Pennsylvania’s share of the federal Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds to support grants for the hospital community to restore the commonwealth’s health care workforce, strengthen public health infrastructures, and improve access to care—especially behavioral health care.
