The Election Deadlines You Need to Know

Whether you’re voting early or in-person, it’s time to get ready for Election Day.

We’re about five weeks away from next month’s general election on November 8, and a few key deadlines are coming soon. Here are the details you need to know:

  • Voter registration:  To vote in the next election, you must complete your application by October 24.
    • How to register:  You can submit your application online or to your county voter registration site. Active duty military and hospitalized or bedridden veterans can register anytime.
    • Eligibility:  To register in Pennsylvania, you must be 18 years old on Election Day, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of the state at least 30 days before the election.
  • Absentee ballots:  November 1 is the last day to apply for a mail-in or civilian absentee ballot.
    • Submission date:  County Boards of Elections must receive the ballots by November 8 at 8 p.m.
  • Poll hours:  In Pennsylvania, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The busiest times of day to vote are in the morning and evening.
