Take Action for Health Insurance by January 15

January 12, 2023

The deadline to pick health coverage through the state health insurance marketplace, Pennie, is just a few days away.

Pennsylvanians have until January 15 to pick a plan through the state health insurance marketplace. Ahead of the deadline, state leaders are reminding consumers that subsides are available to help reduce the cost of coverage, said Pennie Executive Director Zachary Sherman.

“If you need health insurance, or are paying too much for what you have, now is the time to check out Pennie to protect your health and your wallet,” Sherman said.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Enrollment:  The U.S. is on pace for record enrollment. Nearly 16 million people have selected a marketplace plan since open enrollment began, a 13 percent increase over last year, federal officials said.
  • Low-cost coverage:  It’s estimated as many as five million Americans qualify for plans with essentially no monthly premiums, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.
  • In Pennsylvania:  It’s estimated nine out of 10 Pennie consumers qualify and receive over $500 per month in premium savings on average.
  • Help available:  If you need assistance, contact Pennie customer service at (844) 844-8040. Customer service will be open from 8 a.m. until midnight on Sunday, January 15.
  • Quotable:  “Health coverage has never been more affordable, or easier to access, than now, through Pennie, so consider researching and comparing plans to find coverage that best fits you and your family’s needs,” said Acting Insurance Commissioner Michael Humphreys.

HAP urges everyone who needs health insurance to evaluate their coverage options. When evaluating plan choices, be sure to review your current provider network, your prescription drug needs, and the estimated total costs for coverage.
