Recognizing National Rehabilitation Awareness Week

September 14, 2026

Today marks the start of National Rehab Awareness Week, a time to recognize the essential role inpatient medical rehabilitation providers play in patient care.

Here’s what you need to know from the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association:

  • About: The awareness event, held annually in September, focuses on the #PowerofMedicalRehab and how inpatient medical rehabilitation providers support patients as they reach their goals.
  • Why it matters:  Inpatient medical rehabilitation hospitals and units have a strong track record for outcomes, supporting patients after amputation, strokes, brain injuries, bone fractures, and other challenging conditions.
    • This care is essential to ensure patients get the right care, at the right time, in the right setting to support their needs.
  • How it works:  Designed in a team approach, inpatient medical rehabilitation care helps patients receive a range of services, including speech, cognitive therapy, respiratory therapy, recreational therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy.
  • Key message:  National Rehab Awareness Week also highlights the need to increase opportunities for the nearly 50 million Americans with disabilities and to help those who are disabled live up to their fullest potential.

HAP applauds Pennsylvania’s rehabilitation providers for their outstanding care in their communities. Learn more about National Rehabilitation Awareness Week online.
