Study Finds Decrease in Cancer Screenings during COVID-19

According to the results of a study conducted by Epic Health Research Network, screening rates for cervical, colon, and breast cancers decreased by 86–94 percent during March 2020. This and other studies raise concerns about the public health impact of COVID-19 in the future.

NIMHD Announces Funding to Reduce COVID-19’s Impact on Vulnerable Populations

The National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) is accepting until December 15, 2020, applications for funding for programs aimed at digital health assessments and interventions to help identify and treat the secondary health effects of COVID-19’s impact on vulnerable populations.

CMS Working to Extend Telehealth Coverage Beyond the COVID-19 Pandemic

Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Seema Verma shared that the agency is considering extending telehealth coverage and pay rates permanently. In addition to considering coverage and payment, Verma also noted the importance of allowing telemedicine to be practiced across state lines, another flexibility that was granted during the pandemic.

Today, the Pennsylvania House Human Services and the House State Government Committee considered a series of bills aimed at reducing fraud within the Medicaid program. The package, which was introduced at the beginning of the year, was the result of report by the state House Oversight Committee during 2019.

Faced with monumental financial losses, Pennsylvania hospitals today made the fourth quarterly installment of the Quality Care Assessment for fiscal year 2019-2020, in the amount of $250 million. Hospitals have now paid the entire $1 billion assessment. HAP is strongly advocating for the governor and General Assembly to support hospitals as they face projected losses of more than $10 billion from COVID-19.
