Pa. Sees Encouraging Viral Trends for Flu, COVID, RSV

Pennsylvania’s winter respiratory virus season continues to show signs of easing, as cases for flu, COVID-19 and RSV are all on the decline.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Flu:  The flu is decreasing rapidly and the percentage of emergency department visits with a flu diagnosis is low statewide. There have been 13,286 adult and 2,446 pediatric admissions this season to date.
    • The percentage of emergency department visits with respiratory symptoms is 11.21 percent down from 16.9 percent earlier last month.
  • RSV:  RSV is decreasing slightly but still high among those four and younger.
    • There have been over 14,200 cases through Saturday.
  • COVID-19:  COVID-19 is decreasing slightly and remains at moderate levels for emergency department visits statewide. There have been 8,000 adult and 610 pediatric admissions this season.
    • There have been 343 COVID-19 related deaths this season.
  • U.S. wastewater readings:  Wastewater levels for COVID-19 and influenza are moderate, and RSV is low per the CDC.
  • Notable:  Flu A has dominated the season with  the large majority of cases stemming from the subclade K variant.
