Pa. Monitors More Measles Cases

August 19, 2026

The Pennsylvania Department of Health today announced two separate measles cases in Lancaster County that may have exposed others in the area.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Exposure: The Department of Health is alerting the public about two separate confirmed cases of measles:
    •  Individuals attending a soccer camp at Millersville University on August 4–5 may have been exposed.
    •  Individuals visiting the Whole Foods Market at 1563 Fruitville Pike, Lancaster, on August 12, may have been exposed to measles.
  • Big picture:  The news comes amid a broader resurgence in measles cases this year that puts the nation’s “elimination status” at risk.
  • By the numbers:  There have been 340 measles cases and 62 hospitalizations reported this year. Lancaster County has the most reported cases (167), followed by Chester County (38).
    • None of the reported 340 cases involved people who were fully vaccinated.
  • New tools:  This year, the state has launched a dashboard to monitor the spread of measles and a new interactive tool to track school-level vaccination data.
  • Contact tracing:  People who believe they have been exposed and are not vaccinated should contact the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s toll-free hotline at 877-PA-HEALTH (877-724-3258)
