Here’s a look at some of the upcoming legislation coming to the Pennsylvania General Assembly that’s on our radar.

  • House Resolution 534 (Venkat, D–Allegheny):  Directs the Joint State Government Commission to conduct a follow-up study evaluating how medical schools are promoting primary care careers.  
  • Senate Bill 1333 (Saval, D–Philadelphia):  Prohibits employer credit checks on job applicants in most hiring decisions.   
  • Senate Bill 1342 (Robinson, R–Allegheny):  Establishes a direct reimbursement rate for mandated 911 emergency medical services provided by EMS providers from insurers, regardless of whether the EMS provider is in the insurance network.  
  • House Bill 2529 (Scott, D–Montgomery):  Classifies medetomidine as a Schedule III controlled substance in Pennsylvania. 
  • House Bill 2543 (Venkat, D–Allegheny):  Would establish timelines for the Department of Human Services and the County Assistance Offices to process Medicaid pending applications. 
  • Cosponsorship Memo (Schlossberg, D–Lehigh):  Cosponsorship language being circulated which would overhaul Pennsylvania's Mental Health Procedures Act. The proposal would update the standard for involuntary commitment, prioritize least-restrictive treatment options, improve county-to-county uniformity, and modernize definitions and timelines to align with current medical practice.
