Celebrating National Rehabilitation Awareness Week

September 19, 2025

This week, HAP and Pennsylvania’s health care community celebrate National Rehabilitation Awareness Week.

The event, held annually in September, raises awareness of the #PowerofMedicalRehab and the role inpatient medical rehabilitation providers play to restore strength and rebuild lives.

Here are a few key facts about this form of care from the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association:

  • About:  Inpatient rehabilitation providers play an essential role for patients that require specialized care after a stay in an acute care hospital.
  • It takes a team:  The care team in these facilities is led by a licensed physician and includes other rehabilitation specialists (physical and occupational therapy, speech, etc.).
  • Access to care:  In order to receive admission, the rehabilitation physician certifies the patient requires specialized care. This is true for both government and private payors.
  • Why it matters:  These facilities play a critical role to help patients recover from injuries ranging from broken bones and amputation to strokes and brain injuries.
    • Patients treated in these facilities also report strong outcomes across a host of conditions and needs.

HAP applauds Pennsylvania’s rehabilitation providers for their outstanding care in their communities. Learn more about National Rehabilitation Awareness Week online.
