President Biden today unveiled his plan to combat COVID-19 amid growing concerns about cases, hospitalizations, and the Omicron variant heading into the winter months.
“Experts say the COVID-19 cases will continue to rise in the weeks ahead this winter, so we need to be ready,” Biden said while announcing the plan today.
The plan comes as the nation continues to monitor the Omicron variant. A second case of the new variant was detected in a Minnesota resident who recently returned home from New York City.
In Pennsylvania, the Department of Health continues to report rising case counts, with 9,143 additional positive cases of COVID-19 and 3,939 hospitalizations reported on Thursday.
The White House’s action plan focuses on vaccination, booster doses, and access to testing across America. President Biden outlined five key actions as part of the winter plan:
In addition, the U.S. will tighten pre-departure testing protocols for inbound international travelers, requiring testing within one day of departure globally, regardless of nationality or vaccination status, Biden said.
“We are going to fight this variant with science and speed, not chaos and confusion,” Biden said.
HAP will continue to monitor the latest COVID-19 public health developments and provide updates to members. The White House’s action plan and Biden’s address are available to review online.
