Sepsis Coding and Claims Denials Part II: A Pennsylvania Perspective Register Now

Location: Online

Registration Deadline: May 13, 2026

Overview

Please join us for the third session in HAP’s 2026 Financial Webinar Series: Sepsis Coding and Claims Denials Part II: A Pennsylvania Perspective.

Sepsis is a leading reason for prolonged hospital stays and hospital readmissions, and recent studies place the cost of a single sepsis readmission between $16,000 and $30,000, with one 2025 review finding a median cost of $20,320 per case. It remains one of the most clinically complex and financially impactful conditions treated in hospitals today, yet many organizations continue to experience missed reimbursement opportunities, clinical validation denials, and compliance risk due to documentation gaps and inconsistent coding practices.

There are both direct and indirect financial consequences from payor downgrades and denials to sepsis cases; hospitals are getting paid less for clinically appropriate care for each patient and as these cases are downgraded, often based on the documentation presented, case mix goes down overtime which affects all reimbursement. This targeted webinar with a coding auditor is designed specifically to help refine clinical documentation to capture appropriate reimbursement. Content is relevant for CFOs, revenue cycle leaders, CMOs, CNOs, coding professionals, CDI teams, and clinical staff who play a critical role in accurate sepsis capture.

Participants will gain practical, actionable strategies to strengthen documentation integrity, support compliant coding, and improve reimbursement outcomes — without increasing audit exposure.

In this session, attendees will learn:

  • Documentation strategies to minimize sepsis denials
  • How engaging other departments within the organization can maximize data integrity and financial results
  • What auditors look for and how to create records that ultimately drive reimbursement
