Standards Interpretation Group
Marisa Voelkel is an Engineer in the Standards Interpretation Group at The Joint Commission. In this role, she provides standards interpretation, reviews and processes survey reports, consults and provides educational programs for health care organizations and Life Safety Code Surveyors, and serves as faculty for educational programs throughout the U.S. She also supports the Environment of Care, Emergency Management and Life Safety chapters for all accreditation manuals for The Joint Commission.
Ms. Voelkel has more than 13 years of health care experience having held director level roles in Safety, Security, and Emergency Management in three multi-state healthcare systems. Primarily, she was responsible for regulatory compliance and process improvement for hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers and clinics.
Ms. Voelkel is a licensed Registered Nurse in Wisconsin. She is also a Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), a Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP), a Certified Hospital Emergency Manager (CHEC III) and a Board Certified Advanced Christian Life Coach (CACLC). She is a member of The Wisconsin Healthcare Engineers Association (WHEA), where she has been on the faculty of the Healthcare Construction Certification program and The American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE).
Ms. Voelkel attained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR; a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from St. John’s College of Nursing in Springfield, IL; a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from William Woods University in Fulton, MO; and a Master of Pastoral Counseling from Liberty University.
