In Pennsylvania and across the country, hospitals and health systems are closely reviewing the Biden Administration’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate requiring more than 17 million U.S. health care workers to have their final vaccination dose by January 4, 2022.
Released November 5, 2021, the Interim Final Rule (IFR) from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (
CMS) requires COVID-19 vaccinations for individuals working in Medicare- and Medicaid-participating facilities, as well as those working in certain other settings involving face to face interaction with patients
. The CMS rule came out the same day as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing; Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS), which followed a rule regarding federal contractors. Hospitals and health systems are now struggling to determine which rules apply and how to ensure compliance and avoid penalties, in the face of pending legal challenges.
This webinar will cover a Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH) perspective, as well as information from HAP counsel on frequently emerging questions about specific rule requirements, compliance dates, exemptions, and the interplay of the various federal rules regarding COVID-19 vaccine mandates and legal challenges.
