Allowing Access to Designated Support Professionals During COVID-19

Location: Online

Registration Deadline: February 25, 2021

Overview

Designated Service Providers (DSPs) are essential in providing care for patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities, patients. With the visitation restrictions in place due to COVID-19, many DSPs are being denied access in certain hospitals. It is crucial that patients have their DSPs with them for a multitude of reasons including relaying patient history, translating body language, and diffusing anxiety when a patient’s sensory issues manifest to help avoid misdiagnosis, improper prescriptions, prolonged hospital stays or even an early release that results in a remittance due to costly and otherwise preventable medical complications.

During this webinar you will hear from representatives from Pennsylvania Advocacy and Resources for Autism and Intellectual Disability (PAR) and Rehabilitation & Community Providers Association (RCPA)who will explain why designated support professionals are important from a patient’s and hospital’s perspective and how to educate your nursing staff to support them. HAP representatives will also provide an overview on current law and regulation, Office of Civil Rights (OCR) enforcement, and the legal implications of denying patients’ access to their DSP.

This webinar is complimentary for HAP members.
