Resuming Scheduled Surgeries and Procedures—Clinical, Operational, and Legal Considerations Webinar

Location: Online

Registration Deadline: May 06, 2020

Overview

Hospitals and health systems have been allocating their resources to care for critically ill COVID-19 patients and have suspended scheduled surgeries and procedures in the midst of the pandemic. Since Governor Wolf’s mid-March executive order prohibiting elective surgeries, hospitals have postponed or canceled all scheduled procedures, and are now preparing to safely resume these essential procedures for patients whose medical conditions warrant treatment.

On April 27, the Department of Health (DOH) updated its guidance and Pennsylvania hospitals can now begin performing scheduled surgeries and procedures as long as they are able to do so without jeopardizing the safety of patients and staff or the hospital’s ability to respond to the COVID-19 emergency.

During this webinar, a panel of Pennsylvania hospital leaders will discuss the transition back to scheduled surgeries and procedures.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss and exchange ideas with colleagues in regard to resuming scheduled surgeries.
  • Describe DOH guidelines for resumption of scheduled admissions, surgeries, and procedures.
  • Discuss the current recommendations based on the Joint Statement on resumption of elective surgeries.
  • Gain insights on specific steps hospitals are taking to predict procedure volume and capacity and manage patient flow.
  • Describe strategies employed to mitigate infection risk and promote patient, staff, and provider safety during this next phase.
  • Identify some fiscal, compliance, and logistical challenges hospitals and outpatient practices will face during the return to pre-pandemic clinical activities including elective surgeries.

This webinar is complimentary for all HAP members.
