Diversity and Inclusion in Health care: We Can Change!
Gloria Goins, former Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer for Bon Secours Mercy Health System

The COVID-19 pandemic—paired with recent activism to end structural racism—has laid bare the deep inequalities we must address in the United States. These dual events have jumpstarted many long-overdue conversations about the unconscious biases that every one of us—no matter our position or industry—carries with us.

Evidence shows that unconscious biases in health care can compromise safety, quality, and patient outcomes. Simply put: delivering safe care to all requires us to recognize and root out unconscious biases at every level, and develop cross-cultural competencies. This work is essential to address, support, and manage the health of the ever-changing U.S. population, particularly as the world faces the disparate effects of COVID-19.

During this necessary and timely session, you will learn about practical actions that you can take to reduce the effects of unconscious bias in health care operations and steps that you can take to cultivate a workplace in which diversity is celebrated and all people are valued and included.
