Management of OUD in Primary Care Using Research Based Evidence

Location: Online

Registration Deadline: May 06, 2021

Overview

This webinar will give research-based evidence for a health system integrated approach to management of opioid prescribing and opioid use disorder, particularly in the primary care settings. It will include a discussion of the role of nurse care manager, data system surveillance and academic detailing to improve outcomes for patients.

In addition, it will review current epidemiological data and recent research that highlights striking disparities with respect to diagnosis and treatment of opioid use disorder. We will identify the growing disparities in overdose deaths among black Americans and briefly contextualize these findings with our historical approaches to treatment. We will then discuss how to use health equity frameworks to center equity and improve care for vulnerable populations with opioid use disorder within the health system.

Objectives

Upon completion of this session, the audience will be able to:

  • Examine how a systems approach can support opioid prescribing and treatment of opioid use disorder in primary care settings
  • Discuss the role of a nurse care manager in treatment of opioid use disorder and opioid treatment of pain.
  • Illustrate the importance of system data surveillance to understand quality of care for opioid use disorder and opioid prescribing.
  • Examine epidemiological data and research highlighting disparities with respect to opioid use disorder diagnosis and treatment
  • Identify ways to center health equity and improve care for all populations with opioid use disorder across the health system
