Patients need to know that their health care providers make great efforts to protect their private health information. This brochure explains how personal health information is both used and protected in the health care setting.

The brochure (144 Kb English pdf file or 145 Kb Spanish pdf file) can be attached to an organization’s official Notice of Privacy Practices, which must be given to every patient beginning April 2003 under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

It also could be a stand-alone patient resource available in waiting areas, emergency and outpatient departments, lobbies and other public areas, and long-term care facilities.

A poster (133 Kb English pdf file or 134 Spanish pdf file) is also is available for public areas, patient care units, and other key departments.
