The Pennsylvania Pressure Ulcer Partnership (PPUP) is a statewide collaborative between HAP, the Health Care Improvement Foundation (HCIF), and the Hospital Council of Western Pennsylvania (HCWP) to reduce the incidence and severity of pressure ulcers in Pennsylvania, one of the most common types of harm experienced by patients in health care facilities.
During January 2011, the PPUP released the results of its pressure ulcer reduction project showing collaborative efforts to reduce the rate of pressure ulcers and prevent pressure ulcers from getting worse. The project involved 58 hospitals across the commonwealth, and focused on risk assessments, turning and repositioning, pressure reduction devices and techniques, nutrition, skin cleansing and moisturizing, and diligent wound care. The PPUP also conducted a baseline and follow-up survey to assess the extent to which participating hospitals have adopted certain practices and strategies.
