New Report Shows Pennsylvania Adult Obesity Rate Remained Stable for Last Three Years

September 06, 2016

A new report by the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, The State of Obesity: Better Policies for a Healthier America, shows annual adult obesity rates by state, from 1990 until 2015.

Pennsylvania has the 24th highest adult obesity rate in the nation at 30 percent. While this is 20.3 percent higher than during 2000, the rate has remained stable from 2013 to 2015.

New PHC4 Report Shows Too Many PA Hospitals Struggle Financially

Today’s report from the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4) shows that the average total margin for the commonwealth’s hospitals decreased slightly during fiscal year 2015. Nearly 30 percent of Pennsylvania's hospitals lost money on operations. About one in four lost money overall.

New PHC4 Report Shows 1 in 3 SE PA Hospitals in the Red

A report released today by Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4) shows that in southeastern Pennsylvania (SE PA) during fiscal year 2015:

  • About 30 percent of the 45 general acute care hospitals reported on lost money on operations.
  • One in three of these hospitals lost money overall.

IRS Says Hospitals Can Report Housing on Part I of 2015 Schedule H

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has confirmed that hospitals are permitted to report expenditures for clean and safe housing as community benefit expenditures on the 2015 IRS Schedule H form.
