Of the 39 ACOs serving Medicare beneficiaries in PA, 14 are headquartered in the state.

The MSSP is a CMS program designed to lower health care costs, improve the beneficiary experience and access to care, and improve health. 2018 is the sixth year of the MSSP program.
In the MSSP model, groups of physicians join to form an ACO. Those clinicians are then responsible for all the Medicare Part A and B healthcare expenditures provided to their Medicare patients during the year.
If they are successful in producing significant savings compared to baseline expectations, they may qualify to share in a portion of those savings with CMS. The actual amount depends on the selected risk arrangement and performance toward a designated set of quality measures.
